#10 – Pac Man

25th Feb 2019 – I woke up a lot earlier than usual today and was tired, hungry and had hot hands. But I’m HAPPY. I choose to be happy! I had a wonderful holiday with my family and have so many things to look forward to and be happy about. I’m feeling a lot more like my fitter, healthier self again after walking so much over the last few days (although, maybe not super healthy after our Taco Bell visit!). I saw my oncologist today and she was happy that I haven’t been in any pain and that my only side effect at the moment is hot hands. Over the next week I’ll be slowly coming off the steroid tablets too which will be good. I don’t want to take anything that I don’t need and at this stage the oil and brownies seem to be keeping the side effects to a minimum, so I’ll stick with them! My appetite is also back and I ate sooo much today 🐷 I still don’t feel super hungry after lunchtime but I can eat without feeling like I’m forcing myself which is a much nicer feeling. I did notice quite a bit of hair falling out when I washed it today – which is fine – I just didn’t realise I might lose my hair quite so quickly… Gotta find the positives though, no more shaving my legs! WOO!

27th Feb 2019 – Slept for 9 hours last night 😴 It was obviously needed after I surprised everyone by turning up at work yesterday! It was lovely to see everyone and it felt good just to be doing something ‘normal’. I was a little bit tired when I woke up today but got straight onto my 1st breakfast and then went for a 45min walk. It was a beautiful morning to get out and about, especially since I was stuck in the hospital for the rest of the day doing chemo. Luckily I got the window seat today and had a lovely view outside 🌞 I went a bit ‘foggy’ again during the second chemo drug and was a bit tired but apart from that, no new side effects popped up this time! We went to trivia tonight and came out winners again. Yay for free dinner!

28th Feb 2019 – It was way too hot today so I stayed inside but then I felt like I was stuck at home – can’t win! I had a zoladex injection yesterday, which didn’t hurt at the time, but went straight into my stomach. It’s left my tummy swollen, tender and with a decent bruise 😖 I barely made 1000 steps today but wasn’t too worried as I’ll get back out and about when the weather cools down. Who would’ve thought me of all people would be waiting for it to cool down?!

We watched a documentary called ‘HEAL’ recently which really resonated with me. There was a lady in the documentary who said she felt like Pac Man was in her body just eating up the cancer cells. This analogy has stuck with me since and there have been multiple times I have felt the exact same way. One particular time was when we were in the car on the way to chemo and I was getting some sharp pains in my liver. I could’ve looked at it as pain but I chose to think it was Pac Man working away!

Hi Keely, Great to hear your out n about getting your daily steps in, and you get the chance to feel normal every now and then. xxx I’m loving your new wardrobe of t-shirts, yes indeed – you are all over this !!

Tell me about the Peter Mac centre, I haven’t been there, so can you be my eyes and ears… I imagine you would see a lot of people, and get to talk to some of them….and hear some amazing stories

Love to you both, and your beautiful families xx

Peter Mac is great! It’s a beautiful hospital so makes going there not so bad. I have started to notice seeing the same people at chemo each time but most people keep themselves busy so I haven’t really talked to any other patients. The nurses are always up for a chat though! xoxo
