#8 – And Then I Got High…

15th Feb 2019 – I struggled with no appetite today, so it was good timing that I had my first appointment with a dietitian booked in. I never realised, but as part of my health insurance I have access to a dietitian, exercise physiologist and psychologist via video link as well as a FREE Garmin – the only perk of having cancer! Obviously my appetite is not the same anymore, but it’s also a lot harder than I thought to just eat. I know I need to eat well and often but that’s definitely easier said than done. The chat with the dietitian was really helpful and she gave me some tips to bulk up my meals with protein, which seems to be an easier alternative to forcing myself to eat. I had some visitors today which was lovely 😊 It’s always nice for me to catch up with friends and family but I think it’s helpful for them to see me to realise that I’m actually doing ok!

16th Feb 2019 – Back on the brownies last night and I slept perfectly! Had Baxter taken out this morning and then managed to get in a couple of hours work from home. I found a mouth ulcer today, which is another fun side effect of chemo.. Tried to get rid of it straight away so out came the salt rinse – ew! I wasn’t hazy or in any pain today so assuming that means I might be starting to get used to the brownies. Which is ok, because I’ve upgraded to trying out THC oil. Started with 1 drop tonight and ended up sleeping for over 10 hours 😴

17th Feb 2019 – Progressed to 2 drops of oil tonight…

18th Feb 2019 – 😵 I can officially now say that I have been high! And wow.. Found out the hard way that I shouldn’t progress quite so quickly with the oil. So what freaked me out the most was that I had the oil at 8pm last night and at 9am this morning I was out of my mind! Dizzy, seeing purple and white sparkles and feeling like I was standing in the Dubai Desert with sand flying – very loudly – out of my ears 🤯 It was a very odd experience and I still don’t understand how I slept for 12 hours and woke up with a high! I thought if I had the oil and it made me tired, I’d sleep and wake up the next morning completely fine or a little bit hazy. So I’ve decided to leave the oil this week and start fresh with it again next week. And gradually build up the amount of drops over a week or two! The at home nurse came out this morning to change my PICC dressing, so that was another thing I had to worry about while feeling high! My blood pressure was lower than usual and my temperature was higher than usual so I had to keep an eye on that throughout the day. Luckily all was fine and I just had to have some panadol for a headache that was most likely due to dehydration. I had a little bit of abdomen pain this afternoon/evening but wasn’t going near the oil again so had a brownie instead!

Feeling pretty happy with myself – pre 2 drops of oil!
14hrs later… Looking like a space cadet for the at home nurse…

I couldn’t help but have a little chuckle about the oil. Who would have thought going from 1 to 2 drops would make such a huge difference & who would have thought the brownie cakes would be safer at this point?! 😂 I hope your gradual increase to 2 drops works out better for you babe! Keep smashin’ it! xox

Hi Keely. Sending lots of positive vibes your way. X
You’re doing amazingly.
Try carrot juice for the mouth ulcers if you can stomach it.
