#21 – Down Time

9th June 2019 – I spent the weekend with my girlfriends in Malmsbury which was lovely. We went for brunch, shopped at markets, did face masks, played games and ate the best cheese platter – thanks to Anthony! The airbnb we stayed at was beautiful and it was lovely to just sit and read with a cuppa ☕ Anthony picked me up and we continued our drive to Bendigo! We discovered a winery a few minutes away from my nanny’s house (how have we never known about this?!) and it was so wonderful to see my family and get to have another bonfire. Every year on the long weekend we always have a big bonfire at my nanny’s house, but this time last year we were in the beautiful Napa Valley so we haven’t been to one for a while. It was really nice just to relax with everyone and I wish we could have stayed overnight but I had chemo the next day so we headed home that night.

Bonfire with the family 😍

10th June 2019 – My delayed chemo from last week was today. My appointment was for 9.15am but I didn’t physically start chemo until 12pm. It was my first time having my port accessed for chemo and that meant there was a little bit of poking around to get the right spot. Because we had used numbing cream I barely felt anything which was a relief! I had my own room again which was weird today because it was a public holiday and so quiet at the hospital. Anthony was with me all day and Elyse came to visit too. We played games including pictionary on the hospital whiteboard 😂 I got through chemo pretty well but then crashed when we got home and had to have a bucket next to the bed just in case…

Doesn’t look so scary when it’s covered up!

13th June 2019 – The last few days have been very uneventful. I didn’t feel very well so slept in a lot and spent most days on the couch. I still wasn’t feeling good today but once I had Baxter disconnected we had to go to the doctors to get the stitch in my neck removed. That all went very smoothly and they thought my port scar was healing really well. I’m still getting used to it looking creepy though! We decided to have a date day and go out for lunch and then to the movies to see Rocketman, which was really good. When we got home I had another injection by Anthony to boost my white blood cells before the next round of chemo. He is getting good at this now!

14th June 2019 – I woke up really achey today and worked out it’s from the at home injection. I didn’t feel very well today so mum came over when Anthony went out. Which I think was really good for him. And mum is awesome, just keeping me company and cleaning up the house. She is the best!

15th June 2019 – I woke up today, decided to be productive and did more in 30 mins than I had all day yesterday! I’m really glad I was able to get out of the house today for Gin’s baby shower. It was a lovely afternoon and nice to see everyone. When I got home Anthony wasn’t feeling very well – apparently when one of us is feeling good, the other isn’t ☹ The poor thing is exhausted from looking after me for the last 6 months. Tonight was the first time I’ve fully realised how much my illness has taken a toll on my loved ones. I really struggled to see Anthony unwell and not being able to help or make him feel better was a horrible feeling for me. It definitely reiterated how amazing Anthony has been throughout this entire process. I love him 💖
