#16 – Relay For Life

My little excursion to hospital interrupted my post about Relay For Life! So here it is… My awesome friend from work Lisa organised a team and all the fundraising in only 3 weeks and we managed to raise $6533!! By raising more than $5000 it will go to research for finding better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. I would like to say the biggest THANK YOU to all my family, friends, co-workers and customers at work who donated money, walked a few laps or delivered food to those camping out at relay for life! It is SO appreciated ❤ I had the best time seeing everyone and walking a couple of laps dressed as a very warm minion!

7th May 2019 – Here’s a quick update for this week! Today I saw my oncologist and she let me know that my platelets are low so we have to push back chemo a week. She thinks that having a week off chemo will be enough to boost my platelets back up. I didn’t even think about this when I went to book a massage. I had to cancel it as I could bruise easily because of my low platelets. I’m also starting to limit my outings because flu season has started and I cannot afford to get sick. 😷

Apart from that, my latest blood tests showed more improvements with my liver function and my cancer markers are down to 25 🤩 Which is AWESOME! So I’m enjoying my chemo holiday, my appetite has been great this week and I’m now up to 8 drops of THC each day – the aim is 10 drops per day so nearly there. Because of my chemo holiday, my oncologist thinks I’ll be able to handle a few more rounds of this intense chemo called FOLFOXIRI. It’s made up of 4 different chemo meds: Oxaliplatin, Irinotecan, Bevacizumab (Anthony’s favourite word to pronounce!) & Fluorouracil aka Baxter. It’s good that I get a couple of extra rounds of this chemo so it can kill more cancer cells. But that also means a few more weeks of crappy side effects and I was really looking forward to seeing the end of my hair loss! It’s still holding on but I’m not sure how it will go over the next month or so. Hopefully my chemo holiday helps my hair have a break from falling out 🤞 I’ve got my next PET scan on the 24th May so everything will be crossed until then! My doctor even said she is expecting more great results 😍

We would do it all again for you! The pain, blisters and cold was nothing, compared to what you’ve gone through so far. We did it for you my friend. You are so loved by us all here at work and very much missed 😘
